We, Romanians, showed the world that where’s will and determination, there’s also success. Together we outlined a dream and took it to the highest peaks.
Crina Coco Popescu has successfully completed the „Antarctica 2010-2011” expedition, thus becoming the first female alpinist that climbed 7 peaks on the 7 continents. She proundly unfurled the Romanian flag where no one has been before: on the highest!
I’m coming home on Tuesday, 22nd of February 2011, at 5 p.m. I’ll be on Tarom RO 0362 Amsterdam – Bucharest flight which lands on Otopeni airport.
But, before we see each other at the airport (I’ll be very glad if you’ll be there!), let me tell you a bit about my experience in Ojos del Salado.
In 6 hours from now on, I’ll arrive in Antarctica. Ice, snow, mountains….I’m so excited! I admit that I had some troubles arriving to Punta Arenas: the bad weather in Paris babelized the flight of airplanes and the order of luggage, so we were obliged to take once againg the tickets from Chile. We did 4 days on the road.…
We’ve returned from America with our objectives accomplished (Pico de Orizaba! McKinley!) and something more: I’ve made a new friend: Jordan Romero. Together we should leave for Antarctica in the following winter.
As you all know, along with the 7 Summits circuit, I’m also very close to completing the Seven Volcanic Summits: Antarctica’s Sidley will be the final…
Coco - the world’s first alpinist that completes Seven Volcanoes
First woman that successfully ended the 7 Volcanoes Circuit. Romanian 16 years old Crina COCO Popescu is the youngest mountaineer worldwide and also the first woman that finishes the Volcanic 7 Summits Circuit - reaching the summits of the highest Volcanoes on 7 continents!
Coco in Antarctica: the long wait is over
After the success obtained on 4th of January, when Coco completed the ascension of Mt. Vinson – a new age record for Romania, it followed a range of days in waiting of the departure to the next objective: Mt. Sidley, the highest volcano in Antarctica.
Coco leaves on Antarctica expedition on the 24th of December
Crina Coco Popescu will see her dream come true on Christmas Eve when she will leave for Punta Arenas to complete her most important expedition till now, „Antarctica 2010-2011”. Crina will begin the new year by climbing the Mount Vinson (1-10 January 2011), then she’ll take the Romanian flag on the Sidley’s peak (14-23 January 2011).
My name is Crina Imola Popescu but everyone knows me as Crina COCO Popescu. My dear friends simply call me COCO. I ‘m 16 years old and I’m a climber.
I was born in Rasnov, a town close to Brasov and I climb mountains since I was 6. At first I climbed around my hometown: the Bucegi Mountains and Postavarul. Then I’ve wanted to climb higher mountains…and I did it. When I was 11, I went to the Alps and climbed the 4000 m high Dente del Giante. Next there were other dreams accomplished: the Olympus, Ararat and Mont Blanc.

The Antarctica 2010 Expedition will take place between the 10th of December 2010 and the 20th of January 2011 and it is organized by 7 Summits Russia. We will be climbing the mount Vinson and we’ll be the first ever to climb Mount Sidley.
This is an international expedition, so Mr. Mario Trimeri from Italy and Jordan Romero will climb along with me. Mr. Trimeri is also aiming at becoming the first climber in the world to complete the Seven Volcanoes circuit.
Our alpinist’s dreams of climbing all peaks in Seven Summits and Seven Volcanoes Summits have already become plans and they can be transformed into reality only by helping her.
The expedition in Antarctica will take place in extreme conditions and it implies the ascension of two important peaks: Mount Vinson – the highest peak in Antarctica and Mount Sidley – the highest volcano in Antarctica. Coco will participate on both ascensions in order to win two titles: The world’s youngest woman alpinist to reach the Mt. Sidley and The world’s youngest woman alpinist and first Romanian alpinist to reach the Mt. Vinson
